ASMODEOUS Never depend on anyone for anything, because everyone will always let you down everytime, they all leave you in the end, no matter who you think they are. It was still dark, not even the sun had risen to greet the new day. The land was quiet save for the churning hooves and bellowing lungs of a flame-licked mare. Her hooves tattooed a steady rhythm atop the dried grass and thirsty earth as she propelled herself forward. Although images of the land flashed before her eyes, the mare didn’t really see anything. She was too focused on what was going on inside her head. Her mouth was set in a grim line, deepening the furrows along her jaw as she pushed her body to work faster, as if she could flee from whatever turmoil was inside her head.
She hadn’t been paying attention as she crossed from one territory to another, hadn’t noticed the change from day to night, nor was she aware that she was about to enter a new day. Had she been aware, she would have noticed the slight trembling of the earth beneath her hooves- testament of a power she was unaware had awakened when entering this new land. No, the little red mare was only aware of her body as it pumped and churned, of her thoughts as she tried to outrun them.
It wasn’t until the distant horizon ahead of her began to paint itself with the reds and oranges of a new day. Slowly, she became aware of birdsong over the noise of her labored breathing and the salty tang of sea air between each puffing breath. She stumbled into a slower gait, not adjusting to the change in momentum as gracefully as she should have.
The crunching of her hooves on a strange hard surface had the mare nearly going airborne with a frightened leap, a strangled noise clawing from her throat. She landed with another crunching clatter. For a moment, her hooves danced atop the strange surface before she had the wit to glance down. The sand was strange, glittering with colors instead of being its usual off-white hue. The mare shrugged it off and continued to crunch her way across the gemstone shore. Cool water lapped at her hooves, hungrily licking the sweat off of her as she stepped further into the surf. She shivered as the bone-numbing cold bit into her, but continued in until the swells batted at her chest. She sighed before trekking back for land, shaking as much of the freezing water off before she died of hypothermia or something.
Her grey-blue eyes scanned the shoreline around her. She wasn’t familiar to the place, didn’t know where the local hang-out was. Even if she did, would she go? Probably not. She wasn’t one to go out searching for company. She did well enough with it coming to her. It wasn’t that Asmodeous was shy; she just didn’t like walking up to strangers. Sighing, she ambled farther up the shore, close to a gathering of sea oats. Distractedly, she stretched her head out to nibble at a stray piece. That was a mistake. Her lips curled in disgust at the bitter taste. She cast a quick look behind her, hoping that no one had seen her moment of foolishness.

Kairia And they say that a hero could save us Im not gonna stand here and wait Oh hold on to the wings of a hero watches the hope fly away Someone told me love would all save us But how can that be look what love gave us A world full of killing and blood spilling That world never cant Kairia seemed to keep coming back to this beach, and today was no different. Maybe she hoped it would be full of horses someday. She expected no one. So imagine her surprise when she saw a horse. A beautiful blood bay mare, gorgeous and obviously smart. Kairia snorted slightly as she moved towards the mare. As a small mare she usually threw off others with how fragile and small she looked. Only those who actually knew her knew that she wasn’t weak, nor frail. She had the power of the earth behind her, and she knew it. She didn’t move like one who knew power, but that was how she was Humble, unless you get her mad. She watched the mare for a moment, and smiled. She glided forward, greaceful. She had been born a full blooded Arabian, and she looked every inch the Arabian. She stopped near the mare, and glanced at the oats. ”I’ve done that as well. Try again.” She said moving towards the plants, and touching one of them with her nose. She looked at the mare again, waiting. Kairia was the imperial of earth. A powerful person in this world. The earth was her domain and being that plants were part of it. She had changed the taste of the sea oats. They tasted good instead of bitter, and salty. ”I’m Kairia. I’m glad someone actually came here.”

ASMODEOUS Never depend on anyone for anything, because everyone will always let you down everytime, they all leave you in the end, no matter who you think they are. Asmodeous bit back a groan as the voice of another floated her way. Why? She wasn’t a fan of making a fool of herself, especially if there were witnesses to the spectacle. She turned in the direction of the voice, behind and off to the side some. As always, her ears tilted back. Not enough to be anything of anger, more a show of her displeasure of being ordered around, even if the order was a friendly and well-meaning suggestion. Her eyes narrowed in disgust as she remembered the bitter taste of the plant. She shuddered.
“No thanks, I’d rather not.”
She shifted her gaze to the other mare as she walked up, brushing a spiky stalk with her muzzle. The stranger- Kairia as she called herself- was more delicately built than Asmodeous, curvy and graceful where the larger mare was straight and solid. Both mares shared a similar coat color, though the newcomer’s base was more brown than red. Asmodeous lifted her blue-grey eyes a fraction to study the other’s face. Though Kairia appeared friendly, one could never be too careful. The same kindness that revealed itself in the smaller mare’s voice and word choice appeared to reflect in her eyes and the softness of her facial features. Wait a minute…the red-bay twitched in surprise. She had never seen eyes like that before. They were nearly mesmerizing. Asmodeous caught herself getting lost in those unnatural eyes. Blue…yet not. They seemed to have a purplish overlay to them. Strange.
She shook her head in an attempt to clear it. She caught the other’s words, responding at first with a shrug of her shoulders and shifted until her body angled toward the other. It was never comfortable to talk to another when bent in half. Besides, it was considered rude to boot. And Asmodeous wasn’t rude. Well, not to her fellow female or someone who approached with kindness.
”I’m Asmodeous.”
She cast a glance at the shore around her, nothing that the sun had raised while her attention was elsewhere. Damn. She had wanted to see it. Her mother had always spoken about watching the sun rise over the ocean when she was a filly. She had said that it was a much more impressive sight than what was seen over the little lakes that were scattered about the land that they had inhabited when Asmodeous was a youngster. Next time, she thought to herself. Just as she believed, no other equine save for Kairia and herself occupied the shore. The laughing cry of a seabird pealed across the morning sky, as if the bird were mocking the other’s words.
”Yeah. This does seem to be a quiet place. Almost as if we’re the only ones here.”
Although she laughed at her words, Asmodeous couldn’t control the goose bumps that rose along her spine at the words. How sad it would be if her words were true.

Her head arched up to look at her. Hello Asmodeous. And yes this place is quiet… And sadly this beach is hardly ever visited… But I keep coming here… I shouldn’t… My place is with the earth not the water… but still… It is beautiful.” She said simply. Kairia glanced at the sun. It was a beautiful thing… always there, and warming the earth. Occ/// low muse sorry.

ASMODEOUS Never depend on anyone for anything, because everyone will always let you down everytime, they all leave you in the end, no matter who you think they are. In the distance, the waves roared as they chased one another to the shore, pummeling the sand before retreating. Over and over again, the chase continued. Seagulls cried to one another with laughter as they swooped in and out of the whitecaps, sometimes pulling away with a shiny silver prize. It was a relaxing sound. Lazily, Asmodeous nodded in agreement with Kairia. It was beautiful.
The fiery mare shuffled her hooves in the soft yet crunchy sand. Although peaceful, she wasn’t used to such quiet. It was unsettling.
A breeze picked up, refreshing the mare’s nose with the salty tang of the large body of water accented with the unique odor of fish. She wrinkled her muzzle and snorted at the scent, unused to it.
”As quiet and beautiful as it may be, it stinks.”
Asmodeous preferred the lively scent of fields and forests to the beach. She enjoyed the solid footing beneath her hooves and the shade of the trees. This sand was different- she didn’t like how it constantly shifted beneath her hooves. It was too unpredictable.

I prefer the fields, but sometimes the sound of the waves is soothing… Just sometimes.” She said softly, bobbing her head slightly. The sand under her was unpredictable. And just then it started to move causing the bay mare to dance to the side, to gain her footing. She snorted slightly at the sand. Just then the wind caught her mane causing it to land on her eyes. She sighed, tossing her head to get the hair out of it. ”So Asmodeous. Do recognize me from when you gained your powers?” She asked softly. Kairia was the imperial of the earth, just as this wonderful mare was gifted with earth. Kairia let herself reach out to touch the fem with her own power. Even for a noche she was a good mare… And obviously needed a friend of some sort… but first she had to prove that she was smart, and could identify Kairia for who she was. She had an idea for this mare… but that might not be important… only time would tell.

Asmodeous found herself mimicking the smaller mare’s nod, agreeing with her preference toward the fields. She couldn’t help but chuckle at the other as she danced for better footing. This beach thing was a shady place.
Upon hearing Kiaria’s mention of powers, the taller mare tilted her head in a mixture of surprise and confusion. A dash of concern pulled her charcoaled lips into a slight frown. Had she heard right? Powers? What? Perhaps her companion had a screw or two loose in her head. Yeah, that had to be it. There was no such thing as magical abilities outside of one’s imagination. Asmodeous shook her head in response to the other.
”I'm not too sure I know what you’re talking about with this ‘powers’ business…”
But now that she thought of it…no. She was letting Kiaria’s words get to her. She had all four hooves planted firmly in reality. There was no such thing as magic or powers or magical powers.

Suddenly she raised her head and a bit of the sand lifted as she did so. ”Powers. You have Earth power no? You lean towards it. Open fields, Sence you have come here have you ever gotten angry and caused the earth to shake?” She asked, with a slight smile. ”Didn’t you know that magic is alive in this world?” She asked, a smile on her face. She cocked her head to the side. ”Or has that not happened?” She asked quietly now slightly worried.

Asmodeous couldn’t help but chuckle at the other’s words. Yeah, the larger mare often had anger issues and problems controlling her tempter, but surely nothing enough to trigger an earthquake! She shook her head.
”There was a tremor earlier in the morning, but I don’t believe that I could’ve done that. I wasn’t that upset.”
Well, maybe she had been. She wasn’t one to take such betrayal easily. Even now, her heart ached as she thought of the events that had occurred earlier that week. Unable to sit back and deal with it, Asmodeous had run. Like a coward. She shook her head again, this time with more force. The hell with it, she didn’t need a stallion. She could live just fine on her own, doing what she wished with no one to dictate her every action and thought.
”Even if I did possess these magic skills that you speak about, I wouldn’t know the first thing about using them.”
Her words came out harsher than intended, as bitter as the sea oat had been before Kiaria’s magic touch. Both left a horrid residue on the mare’s tongue.

Kiaria watched the mare quietly. Then she spoke softly. "Relax... I know you have the magic. Relax. Literally. I'm gonna teach you how to use your magic." She said moving closer to the mare. "Close your eyes and feel deep with in you..." She said her voice dropping to something very relaxed and calm.

ASMODEOUS Never depend on anyone for anything, because everyone will always let you down everytime, they all leave you in the end, no matter who you think they are. Relax. Right. Asmodeous grumbled in her thoughts. What else can you do when you’re either talking with a bonkers mare or reality as you know it is wrong? Oh, right. Relax. As she thought of it, she found it harder to do as demanded. Each time one set of muscles loosened, another tensed. Or a fly bit her. Or she grew uncomfortable. The mare sighed as she shifted her weight, shuffling her hooves in the sand. She closed her eyes in the vain hope that blocking out the world would help her with her plight. That was a no-go as well. She soon found herself paying attention to the soft roar of the waves or the feel of the warm wind in her fur or the sun as it cooked her back- anything but what she was supposed to be doing. Blobs of color undulated on the background of her lids.
Her sigh was sharper this time. Grumbling again, she braced her legs as if forcing herself to relax and look into herself was going to work. Her reddish-brown lids flickered as the blue-grey eyes beneath them moved. What exactly was she supposed to be looking for? How did this magic mumbo-jumbo work?
Asmodeous wrinkled her nose at the thought, though she continued to play Kiaria's game. How’s about a tree or something, since I supposedly have earth magic? It took some work and stretch of imagination, but her mind’s-eye soon conjured a simplified tree that glowed with the green of spring. It could work. Maybe.
”Umm…I think I see it…”
She murmured, feeling lost. How was she supposed to use it? Think the magic into happening? Her charcoal-coloured lips pressed into a thin line as she concentrated on the image, focused on pushing the energy into the tree’s roots. Golden-green bubbles merrily danced down the trunk of the tree before bursting as the larger mare became distracted. She made a noise of frustration and pounded the soft sand with a hoof. Although she had opened her eyes during all of this, she was somehow able to maintain an image of the tree overlaying her natural vision. She watched in amazement as the bubbles returned, zooming into the roots and spreading out. At the same time, the earth shook, though the movement was barely light enough to feel. The sea oats seemed to nod their approval at Asmodeous’ accidental success. A cocky smirk sprung upon the mare’s muzzle as she glanced at Kiaria. What a swift change of mind.
”This is wicked. What else can we do with this magic stuff?”

Kiaria laughed as she watched the tree. ”Good.” She whispered. She chuckled slightly at the mares words. ”We can create earth tremors, make things grow faster and have plants trip those chasing us. I can control foal birth. To many Earth seems weak, and that those of us who have this special power are weak and worthless… Because I mean causing the earth to fall out from under someone is weak.” Her voice went slightly bitter for a second.
She moved closer to the tree and touched it , letting it grow bigger. ”Your very powerful. Just remember that if let yourself get TOO angry you can rip a hole in the ground. Imagine your anger ripping a whole in the ground… It makes you feel better, but genereally the horses your angry at disappear…” She smirked slightly. ’Of course sometimes that’s just what you need. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that your power isn’t powerful… It just happens to be more nuturing then killing… Or laughing.” She said with a slight horse shrug.
