Her ears flickered around, listening for friend or foe for a moment and reorienting herself with the world after the land of darkness and dreams she had just returned from.
It did not take long for this, of course, and her head quickly rose higher in nothing other than self-confidence and pride, her eyes bright and clear, her tail lifting ever so slightly in the arab fashion, and she snorted softly before inhaling the fresh morning air deeply and rocking back on her haunches, pushing off into a gentle, smooth, floating canter. She loved a morning run. Her tail rose higher, clearly marking part of her heritage to anyone who dared to look. After a few minutes of just running, she slowed again, a morning ritual over and done with, and she then set out at a trot in a search for water.
She knew where to go, of course. She knew this land like she knew herself. Perfectly. And, just like with her opinion of herself, she had every confidence it was the best. She would not live here for any other reason. The best deserved no less than the best, after all. Reaching a stream, it's soft trickling water glistening as the sun slowly crept ever higher, a burning ball of light to keep them all alive. She lowered her lips to the cool liquid, letting them rest in it for a moment in silent pleasure, then slurping some up, ears circling as she did so. An odd quirk of her body. Ever horse's ears moved when they drank, of course, but her tips made perfect circles, each about one and half inches in diameter. She liked to think it made her unique.
She rose her head again, droplets falling as she glanced around, body stock still except for the head and ears which swivelled around. She thought she heard something, something like hoof-beats. She pinpointed the presumed noise and turned that way, nickering softly. No dark could come here, after all. She was safe. She knew that much.
"Who is it?" Her voice, as her body did, showed authority, commanded respect of at least the slightest form, and her sharp eyes were calculating, watching, always watching, and finding something wrong when there was something to find. She did not quiver, did not shake, when she could not see what, if anything, approached. She did not care. She would deal with it accordingly, whatever it was, and she would not be afraid. She was rarely afraid. She would keep it that way.

|||-Phantom-||| ...Monkey business Slippin' on the track... ...Monkey business Jungle in black... ...Ain't your business if I got No monkey on my back... <<-------------------------------------------------->>
-|| He was growing used to this place. Sure, he had been there for over half a year, and normally that was plenty of time for him to grow used to a land, but this place was different. Unlike other places, this place was lacking of any danger what so ever. Though the lack of the ability to die had made the stallion already a bit careless of danger, he had always still been on alert for any kind of attack because he had no wish to feel pain that could be avoided. The fact that being in these lands left him with no fear what so ever of attack still felt... strange to him. It made him feel as if he had a false sense of security, almost as if the lack of danger was only to lull him to carelessness before taking advantage of his momentary laps and blind siding him.
-||Laying his ears back slightly, he continued along the path he was walking, a feeling of discomfort passing over him. Though few could feel such discomfort in this land thanks to its calming qualities, the amount of time he'd been spending there lately had the lands affects somewhat dulling on him. Sure he couldn't feel bad for long, but the moments that he did had him looking into the shadows, pondering what was in wait. This was one of those moments, as he swung his head from side to side, his eyes looking unstrustingly into the dim light of the forest. Who knew what was out there, waiting for him to fall back into the calm unawaryful bliss of this place. His calm walking perked up slightly into a jig as he walked on, ears now twirling to keep up with the sounds other than his own footsteps and breath.
-||Though his discomfort and change in pace would sudgest panic, the eyes that looked around held nothing other than miss-trust. No fear was eminent in his body language, just disstrust for the quiet, broken only by bird song. Nothing could be this perfect; nothing in this world anyways. Even the Imperials themselves had their flaws; few and far between, but they where there. So how could a land be so... strongly quieting. Shaking his head, he snorted, causing a flock of birds to flutter out of a bush he was passing. At the sound of the fluttering wings, he laid his ears back, stopping and turning to watch as the creatures raced for the sky. Not putting his ears forwards, he pawed at the ground and chewed at his tongue, annoyance prommenent on his features. 'Idiotic flying rats... ' Shaking his head, his mane whipped as his neck, as he started off again.
-||The land was starting to take over him again, dulling that feeling of suspicion, leaving him with a feeling of well being; that nothing in the world could ever touch him. A light sigh left his lips as he flicked his ears forwards then back, before letting them hang listlessly to either side of his head, giving him a pathetic donkey-like look. He needed some time out of the land before it drove him insane, or he completely lost all sense of worry. He knew himself well enough to know he was already vain where staying unharmed was concerned (he couldn't die, so where was the point in worrying?) but now that he had taken on the position as leader of a herd, he knew he had to keep himself in check. Undying he may be, but invensible he was not. Lowering his head, he drew in a breath, taking in the smell of the earth beneath him.
-||At least whatever magic was there to dull bad feelings and replace them with good didn't dull ones senses at all. Drawing a last deep breath of the musty and damp soil, he suddenly threw his head up, reaching out with his front legs as his strong hindquarters bunched beneath him. Like a bird launching into flight, he took off, kicking away from the ground and for a moment it seemed he would fly before his front feet returned to the ground and he was off in a flat out gallop. Though by far not the fastest of runners, he still managed a strong pace as he raced through the forest, cutting off the path at one point and careening seemingly carelessly through the thickest part of the woods. Never pausing, he didn't even flinch when he came within an inch of crashing face first into a large oak, then veering to the side, only to veer back to the right to miss a large stone.
-||He didn't know how long he ran, only that the adrenalin in his body was refreshing; that every time he came within an inch of injury, the game became just that much more exciting. His nostrils where flaring by the time he neared the edge of the woods, and he bore a few scratches as well as a gash across one shoulder that was freely bleeding, the line of red trailing down his right leg, leaving a dark line. He didn't notice it though, the adrenalin in him numbed the pain of it. What the adrenalin didn't block out was the fact that he felt hot, his body covered in a layer of sweat that made his hair glisten as he left the cover of the trees. A quick glance around, and he knew where he was, and without changing pace, set off in the direction he knew there was a pond in.
-||The lake was just on the other side of a hill, and didn't take him long to reach. Finally slowing his pace to a light canter, he made his way into the cool water, the blessed liquid splashing up around his sides as he charged into it. Once the water reached up to his chest, he stopped, instantly dunking his head under the surface before quickly pulling it out and snorting, shaking the water from his eyes. His breath was coming in short gasps because of his running, but as he blinked open his amber eyes, he revealed that they where glinting with pleasure and a new love of life, nothing lingered of his insicurities he'd had earlier. Wading slowly further into the water, he sighed as the water became deeper and started to flow over his back, instantly chilling every part of his burning skin it touched. Closing his eyes, he stood with his body completly submerged, and his head floating on top of the water as his breath slowly returned.
-||It was as his panting breaths returned to steady blows that his sense of smell returned as well. Opening his eyes, he drew in a long breath of air, his head rising from the water and ears pointing strait ahead. The hot summer air held on it a scent he'd been searching for all day. Slowly, a grin appeared across his lips (an odd feature of his seeing as horses where not normally creatures to grin) and he quickly made his way to the bank of the river, before turning around and smelling the air again. The scent was still there. Keeping the grin on his features, he wandered in the direction he guessed it came from, picking up a steady canter. It wasn't too long before he managed to locate the creature that the scent belonged to, as he breached another hill and stood looking down a slight drop-off into a lushly green vally. Within the vally, he caught sight of a dark figure gracefully cantering across the terrain, her whole body speaking of pride and beauty.
-||As he watched the mares progression across the field, the stallion couldn't help the slight awe that crossed over his features as he watched her movements. Ever since he had first met her, he had been in awe of her. Of course, he'd never let anyone but himself know that, but at the distance he stood now, there was little chance of her noting his presence. As he watched, she slowed and stopped, before dropping her head to sip at water he couldn't see from his position. Flicking an ear backwards, he figured there was no point in standing there staring like a love struck colt, and quickly made his way down the steep drop off, before taking off in a slow gallop in her direction. As he neared her, he slowed down to light canter, and as he saw her look towards him, he arched his neck, his lips pulling back into his well known grin. Halting closer than nesesary to her, he extended his neck to touch her shoulder in a way that from any other, would of been an affectionate matter. For him, it was just mocking. "Why hello there yourself, /your highness/ I would think by now you would know my name, if only from having so often cursed it. Withdrawing his head before she could try and bite at him, he turned to the river and dropped his head as if to drink, but instead just played with the cool water, splashing it around out of boredom, and as a way of pretending he wasn't much interested in what she had to say.

Not quite, of course. There was a dignity to it, as her head raised a smidgen higher, her neck arching in the classical way of the arab. She swung her body away from his own slightly, as if it disgusted her to be so very close. It didn't, but she was never one to let any stallion think she liked them. Not even for a moment. It wasn't as if she didn't have practice ignoring lovestruck colts. She had seen them often chasing her way, particularly while she was younger, less experienced in the way of the world, and they believed they had a chance.
Her ears tipped back slightly, only to flatten against her skull for a brief moment as his nose brushed her shoulder, nearly touching skin through her thin summer coat. She often felt the chill of winter more than others. Her coat had never been thick, often equal to that of a shetland pony's summer coat during the coldest months of the year. Rather than retaliate to his touch with a bite, however, her hind end swung back around and her near back leg bent to send a hoof flying towards his pasterns. She didn't care if she actually hit him. It would still get the point across just the same.
Yet, while upwind and without looking to see, one can not know the name of who approaches simply by sound alone. Imbecile.
She replied, tone dry and sounding ever so slightly annoyed. It wasn't that she could play along, couldn't get along with the king when needed. She could. She just didn't when she didn't have to. It was much easier to patronize him, almost as if he was her foal, although he rather obviously was not.
She watched him play with the water, ears flattening out in almost slight confusion. Then she simply shook her head and chased away the questions from her mind. And then her eyes caught the gash on his shoulder, and, for a split second, she looked concerned. She quickly masked it with a vague indifference, speaking as if it was only out of curiosity and a slight longing for some sort of conversation.
What the hell happened to you?
She motioned towards the cut with a turn of her head, craning her neck around, before looking away again, lowering her head to take another sip of water as she waited for his answer, patient of course. She had to show she didn't care, even to herself. It was the only way to prove to herself that she honestly didn't.
